The 5U is a variation of the same units (5T - .pdf specification file) that telecom companies are buying to provide emergency backup power for cell phone towers to ensure uninterrupted cell phone service irrespective of the type of weather or natural disaster. They are also being used to provide emergency backup power to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection during hurricane caused outages.

The GenCore^TM 5U120 is an AC power emergency backup system that can be utilized in two configurations:

1) Basic (Great for Residential Applications)
2) Extended (Great for Commercial and Industrial Applications)

This application of the proven GenCore^TM 5U120 (.pdf specification file), will connect the unit to an exterior AC inverter. It will also be scaleable so that you may link up to four units together to obtain up to 20kW of power (up to 600 kWh per day). The average house in California uses approximately 18 kWh of power per day. It will seamlessly engage when the electric grid goes down and disengage when the grid comes back up. With options like the low fuel sensor (it can even automatically order its own replacement fuel), it is a system that will always give you peace of mind - no matter who is at home.

Depending on how much power your application draws, one GenCore^TM 5U120 unit can run between 12.0 hours to 100.4 hrs. (see chart below) utilizing 6 hydrogen cylinders that can be placed in the optional Hydrogen Storage Module shown in the picture above - the large cabinet to the right of the fuel cell. When in operation, this unit will cost from $1.11 to $9.28 an hour to run. With refueling, this system will provide you with continuous backup.
